Where History Breathes
At Villa Fabiani, you are not just a visitor; you are part of a narrative that has been unfolding for centuries. Every stone, every arch, every vista tells a story of love, vision, and perseverance.

Step into a 17th-century legacy. A villa rustica, Villa Fabiani has evolved over six centuries into a country estate on a vineyard property in the Karst region, in the hinterland of Trieste. Here, time meets sophisticated historical elegance: vineyards, historic rose gardens, ornamental gardens, a park with a historic natural pool from 1865, and our private water spring—a true miracle of the Karst. The mighty tree is not just a monument; it is a living sanctuary of the home. Today, the estate offers 14 fully restored rooms. The historic property lies between Bled, Ljubljana, Trieste, and Lipica; geographically, it is the perfect starting point for discovering Venice, the Adriatic coast, and many hidden corners.
The estate develops from a farm into a noble manor.
The villa acquires its distinctive Baroque facades and Italian style.
The famous architect and urbanist Max Fabiani is born in the villa.
Blanka and Andrej Malgaj begin the restoration and revival of the estate.

The Porsche Museum opens at Villa Fabiani with a private collection.

In the spotlight: The prestige of the man and his international influence.
Vila Fabiani is the birthplace of the Architect of the Monarchy, Prof. Dr. Maks Fabiani (1865–1962), who was not only an architect but a visionary who reshaped the faces of Vienna, Trieste, and Ljubljana. He was an advisor to Emperor Franz Joseph, and after WWI, he significantly transformed the urban landscape of the Primorska region and brought bourgeois grandeur to Štanjel in the Karst.

In the spotlight: The passion of the Malgaj family and the mulberry tree.
In 2010, the spouses Malgaj, architect Blanka and Andrej, a lover of vintage Porsche cars, purchased the dilapidated property and embarked on a complete revitalization of both the agricultural land and the buildings. The revitalization of the vineyard estate of excellent wines, historic rose gardens, and restored historic buildings of the country manor is jointly managed by the non-profit Fabiani Institute and the Malgaj family. The Malgaj family undertook this lifelong project with the goal of restoring the fading masterpiece to its former glory. At the heart of this revival stands a 400-year-old mulberry tree—the oldest fruit tree in Slovenia and a silent witness to a love romance immortalized in the famous novel by Renato Ferrari, for which the estate is already legendary and popular. We have breathed new life into the historic stone walls. Here, history, boutique culture, and absolute exclusivity meet.
